The Department of Physics began its journey in 1973 along with the college to teach Higher Secondary course (Physics) and B. Sc. (General Course) under the University of Burdwan. B. Sc. (Honours Course) was introduced in 2015 with affiliation of The University of Burdwan. At present the course curriculum is guided by the Kazi Nazrul University. The department is presently being run by two full time Assistant Professors and one teaching staff. The department has got well equipped laboratories for Honours and General course experiments. Apart from Central Library, the Departmental Library has a good number of textbooks and reference books. Students and teachers share very close and healthy relationship in this department. Response of the students in the classes is quite encouraging and interactive. The teachers help the students in and off the classes in their study, according to their requirements. Teachers occasionally arrange departmental seminars and the students participate in this programmes spontaneously and enthusiastically. This close bond between the students and the teachers creates a congenial atmosphere in this department.
